Being Blessed, Being a Blessing

"Be blessed and be a blessing." That’s what the priest told us during the Mass on December 24. Those words stuck with me because they perfectly capture what Christmas is all about—not just receiving blessings but also sharing them with others. That night, as I looked around the church and saw families together, I realized how simple acts of love, kindness, and presence can truly make this season meaningful.

In our home, the Christmas spirit started days before the Christmas. We decorated the house, hung lights, and of course, set up our Christmas tree. The smell of food filled the air as we went shopping for ingredients and started preparing dishes for our Christmas Eve celebration. Everyone pitched in, chopping, stirring, and tasting along the way. By the time midnight arrived, our table was ready, and we gathered around to eat together, laugh, and enjoy each other’s company.

The next morning, the celebration continued with a mini-Christmas program with my cousins, uncles, and aunties. We played games, shared more food, and laughed so much that our cheeks hurt. Those moments of bonding reminded me that Christmas isn’t just a day; it’s a feeling, a reminder of the love and warmth we can share with the people closest to us.

Looking back, the priest’s words really make sense. Christmas is about being blessed, yes, but also about being a blessing to others. It’s in the laughter shared, the meals prepared together, and the time spent with loved ones. The essence of Christmas isn’t just in the presents we receive, but also it’s in the love, care, and joy we give and share with others. That’s what truly makes this season special.
